| | Seattle Public Library - Stacks | |
The Central Library of The Seattle Public Library is a delightful building designed to invite people to explore books, think and discuss. A structural steel and glass skin ties together the multifaceted form and defines public spaces between various parts of the library. The "Living Room" lobby, located under a 15 meter (50 foot) high sloping glass wall, contains the fiction stacks. The non-fiction stacks are located on the "Dewey ramp", a continuous four-story spiralling ramp. Unique and large lettered signs are used throughout the library to help the public navigate through the spaces. The Reading room, on the top floor, provides views of Puget Sound and the surrounding mountains.
