Accent Lighting
Bring attention to focal point(s) with accent lighting
Problem / Situation
With only ambient lighting, a room will be uninteresting, and details will dissappear and be washed out by the flat ambient lighting.
Solution
Provide an extra punch of accent lighting to highlight details and bring attention to key architectural focal points in a room.

Typically accent lighting will be a bright, cool white light, and be directional, such as provided by halogen reflector lamps.
Supporting Patterns
An upward facing light positioned at the base of a plant can make a very interesting accent light. In plants with relatively thin leaves, the leaves can be made to glow, emphasizing the green naturalness of the plant. At the same time, the shadows cast by the leaves can make for an interesting pattern on a nearby wall or ceiling.
