It is well known that many current practices both within architecture and within our societies as a whole, are ecologicallly unsustainable. Buildings and other built environments - and by extension the architects and designers who create them - are one of the greatest contributors to the impact that human activities have on the ecology of our world.
Therefore, designers of buildings and other environments have a great role to play in finding more sustainable building practices.
In addition to patterns found on architypes.net, the
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program has devoted a lot of effort to capturing many patterns of sustainable design.
